More Information

The data on this website, including in the graphs and calculator, is approximate in nature and should not be relied upon.

Talking to a top local real estate agent is a good first step to determine what you may be required to pay to sell your property and to understand the local property market.

The graph and calculator use data collected by Which Real Estate Agent in 2019, and provides a state-wide average estimation of commission rate. The data presented should only be used as an indication of what you may be required to pay.

Be careful of extra fees that may be charged by a real estate agent. We recommend you properly review the agency agreement and cost schedules, so there are no surprises when you are presented with the final bill.

There is almost always room to negotiate commissions with agents. Do not be afraid to ask for an agent fee structure that favours your situation and ensures the agent does their job.

However, remember that an agent willing to drop their agent fees to rock-bottom are not likely to have your best interests at heart. Make sure you’re not just padding out someone else’s sales statistics - you should spend a little more to make more.

Your Suburb Suburb Overview

Tarneit) is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 25 km west of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Its Local Government Area is the City of Wyndham. At the 2011 Census, Tarneit had a population of 21,690.

According to forecast.id Tarneit’s population is estimated to be 19,435 in 2011 and 63,512 in 2031, a rapid increase of 8.9 percent, or 55,899 persons.

It is an emerging suburb in the City Of Wyndham and neighbours another emerging suburb, Truganina.

Tarneit was established as a grazing area. Tarneit Post Office opened on 8 March 1888, closed in 1895, reopened in 1902 and closed again in 1943.

Tarneit is mostly used as agricultural grazing land. However this is changing due to the urban sprawl coming from nearby suburbs, such as Hoppers Crossing and Werribee, mostly happening in the southern part of Tarneit.

Tarneit already has a secondary school within its boundaries, known as Thomas Carr and the Prep – Year 9 Baden Powell College in the Rose Grange Estate. Work will start in 2010 on a new school in Tarneit. Tarneit College as it will be known will provide from Years 10-12 in stage one, with construction due to be completed by 2012. Islamic College of Melbourne, located at Wootten Road, commenced its classes from Grade 1 to Grade 4 in February 2011. There are expansion plans to Year 8 by 2012 in a 24 classroom campus with building construction commencing in April 2011.

A lot of residential growth is occurring in the Thomas Carr District, with other schools and shopping centres planned for construction. Wyndham Village Shopping Centre, in the suburb’s south, was completed in 2005 to serve the exploding population in the immediate area, especially in the residential developments of Tarneit Gardens, The Rise, Rose Grange and Seasons.

In the next ten years, Tarneit and other suburbs such as Truganina are expected to grow rapidly as more established City of Wyndham suburbs are exhausted for land space.

The Tarneit area is now the site of several new housing estates, including The Heartlands, The Reflections Estate, Moorookyle, Tarneit Gardens, The Rise, Claremont Park and Rose Grange. Mooted estates include Evadene, located within the Claremont Park estate. By contrast with the number and scale of private estate developments in Tarneit, public housing remains underprovisioned.

Leakes Road has recently undergone redevelopment and is now sealed from Fitzgerald Road to Tarneit Road and provides a link from the industrial areas of Altona North and Laverton North to Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing. It is planned to ease traffic congestion on Sayers Road, which services Hoppers Crossing commuters travelling to and from the city. During peak hour the road is often a traffic nightmare for locals.

In 2010, the Wyndham Bus Network was extensively upgraded and now caters for commuters from Tarneit.
